Malcolm's Blog February was certainly one for the record books for Crossville. We started the month with several inches
of snow on the plateau and spent the first couple of weeks of the month with highs seldom above freezing and nightly lows
in the teens. In addition to the big storm at the first of the month, it snowed a couple more times during February.
It looks like it is slowly starting to warm up a bit and if we can believe the Weather Channel, by the end of March
we should be seeing daily highs around 60 with overnight lows around 40 - almost perfect weather to catch the early blooming
flowers around the park.
If you decide to take a trip up to the park, remember that the bathrooms are open and
the water is on all winter. If you visit the park during the winter you will find the end door of the clubhouse unlocked
so you can access the bathrooms. The front gate will be closed, but not locked. Please close the gate behind you
as you come and go.

Finally - a couple of reminders:- The ladies auxiliary is looking at a couple of possible fund raising projects for next year that require some photos
of TCPC. They have expanded the search from just seasonal photos to any photos of you, your friends or family having
fun at TCPC or just any good shots of the park. So let's see those pictures you have of TCPC. Pick out the
best shots and email them to me at this email address - I will forward them to the Ladies Auxiliary.
- Speaking
of the ladies auxiliary, their biggest fund raising event of the year is the country store that is held at both of our membership
meetings during the year. Let's help make this next year's sales the best ever. If you have some items
that you think someone else might want, save them for the country store!
And remember,
the May rally theme this year is "Christmas", so some of those old holiday things
you have laying around might be ideal for the sale!- The first rally of 2010 corresponds with the park
opening date of April 15th. We have planned a "work party" for the weekend of April 10th and 11th to lend
a hand in getting the park opened up and ready for visitors. We need help cleaning up the clubhouse, the common areas
and the visitors lots. If you can work this into your spring schedule, your help will be appreciated. Several
people have already said they will be there - if you can join us, please send a reply to this email. I am told that
a lunch will be provided for the workers.
- Regarding that first rally of the season, we could still use
some member lots to host visitors for the April 15th to the 18th rally. If your lot will be vacant during that time
and we can park a visitor there, please send an email to our hosts Harry and Jill Willoughby and let them know that they can
use your lot. Their email address is
haje141@aol.com- And since we are talking about lots, if you would like to spare your back and
have the ladies auxiliary clean your lot of leaves this spring, please call
Doris Duke directly
or send me an email to this address and we can add you to the list of lots to be cleaned. The price will vary depending
on the size of your lot and the amount of leaves to be raked, but the price range is $35 to $75 and the proceeds benefit the
ladies auxiliary's programs.
- And remember! If you have news you want to share with the TCPC
family, just email it to me at this address and I will make sure the word gets out.
